(St. Catharines, ON) The Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA) is pleased to announce that Tim O’Connell of the Stockton Thunder has been selected as the ECHL recipient of the 2006-‘07 InterContinental Hotels Group Ironman Award.
The Ironman Award is presented annually to one PHPA Member playing in the American Hockey League and one Member playing in the ECHL, who has participated in all of his respective Club’s regular season games and has contributed both offensively and defensively throughout that campaign.
The Grand Forks, North Dakota native topped an elite field of ECHL candidates whose nominations were based upon individual player performance, with primary consideration placed on games played, points, and plus/minus statistics. Over 72 games, O’Connell managed to tally 10 goals and 22 assists, while boasting an impressive plus/minus rating of +22. In addition, O’Connell amassed 126 penalty minutes while patrolling the blue line for the Thunder last season.
To commemorate his outstanding effort and performance, O’Connell will be presented with 75,000 Priority Club Points, redeemable for accommodations at any of the fine hotels or resorts within the InterContinental Hotels Group. O’Connell will also receive a commemorative Ironman Award print and frame, crafted by SlapShot Customs.
Honorable mention to last year’s winner Mike Scott (Alaska) and Olivier Filion (Alaska) for their respective 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the balloting process. Both had tremendous seasons for the Aces.
