(St. Catharines, ON) The Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA) is pleased to announce that David Van der Gulik has been selected as the AHL recipient of the 2006-‘07 InterContinental Hotels Group Ironman Award.

The Ironman Award is presented annually to one PHPA Member playing in the American Hockey League and one Member playing in the ECHL, who has participated in all of his respective Club’s regular season games and has contributed both offensively and defensively throughout that campaign.

A native of Abbotsford, BC, Van der Gulik topped an elite field of AHL candidates whose nominations were based upon individual player performance, with primary consideration placed on games played, points, and plus/minus statistics. Van der Gulik took top honors over the 19 other “Ironmen” candidates, amassing 16 goals and 27 assists over 80 games for the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights, while boasting the fourth highest plus/minus rating in the League at +27. The Calgary Flames draft pick also notched 69 penalty minutes, helping the Knights clinch top spot in the West Division.

To commemorate his outstanding effort and performance, Van der Gulik will be presented with 75,000 Priority Club Points, redeemable for accommodations at any of the fine hotels or resorts within the InterContinental Hotels Group. Van der Gulik will also receive a commemorative Ironman Award print and frame, crafted by SlapShot Customs.

Honorable mention to Dan Jancevski (Hamilton) and Nathan Oystrick (Chicago) for their respective 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the balloting process. Both had outstanding seasons for their respective clubs.
