PHPA Member, Luc Bourdon, Killed in Motorcycle Crash

Luc Bourdon, a promising defenseman who split time with the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose was killed Thursday when his motorcycle struck a tractor-trailer in a crash near his hometown. He was 21.

"Luc was a winner, he was a competitor," said Kent Hughes, his agent. "There was no quit in him. He persevered through a lot. He was a great guy and a great teammate."

Bourdon, who played his junior hockey with the Moncton Wildcats, Cape Breton Screaming Eagles and Val d'Or Foreurs of the QMJHL, split his first pro season in 2007-08 between Vancouver and the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose.

"Our sympathies and prayers are with all friends and members of the Bourdon family," said PHPA Executive Director, Larry Landon.

    The ECHL and its member teams extend their thoughts and prayers to former ECHL player Jason Baird, who is in stable condition at the Akron (Ohio) Burn Center after he was seriously burned on July 24 when the lawn mower he was riding exploded.
