Ron Jaros has served as the PHPA General Counsel since 1993 and was the legal strategist in the successful organizing drives which led to player-union representation in the East Coast Hockey League (1995) and Central Hockey League (2008).
An attorney with over forty-five years of experience in labor law, collective bargaining, arbitration, litigation, and sports law, Ron has assisted the PHPA with the successful completion of nineteen (19) collective bargaining agreements and countless arbitration cases throughout his storied legal career. He has assisted the Association in protecting and advancing the rights of thousands of players throughout his tenure with the PHPA.
“Prior to becoming Executive Director in 1993, I had the opportunity to interview numerous attorneys as I searched out a legal mind to assist with strategies to create a solid foundation on which we could build a more effective Association,” said PHPA Executive Director Larry Landon. “My choice became clear after interviewing Ron that this was the lawyer who would guide myself and the Executive Committee at the time in the shaping of what we have today.
His experience at the bargaining table, his track record in arbitration within sports and the public and private sectors, combined with his relationship building skills were paramount in the PHPA establishing credibility and gaining the hockey community's respect in a very short time frame. Ron continues to be a voice of reason when complex issues arise with management.”
“I was genuinely awestruck upon learning that I had won the award,” said Jaros. “I really don’t seek recognition, so when it comes, it’s a delightful surprise.”
