In January, 2017, the Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA) purchased a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, with the intent of adding a few simple features and some PHPA branding to help raise awareness for the Association during their 50th Anniversary season.  The bike would be displayed at various events throughout the year and then raffled with all proceeds benefiting a charitable organization.  What resulted, however, was a one-of-a-kind, custom built show bike, that by far exceeded all expectations and expanded the scope of the initiative exponentially.

The PHPA commissioned renown motorcycle expert Quinn Camp from Quinn’s Custom Motorcycles in Welland, Ontario to refurbish the PHPA Harley into something that PHPA Members would be proud to showcase.   Camp, who has rebuilt hundreds of motorcycles from the ground up for various motorcycle enthusiasts and celebrities knew this bike would have to be special given the significant nature of the Association’s 50th Anniversary.  He certainly didn’t disappoint.

Some of the features Camp incorporated into the PHPA Harley include full front and rear air ride suspension, an 88 cubic inch engine, 26” front wheel, center stand, 7.7 JL audio fully amplified sound system, LED lights in the front and rear, contrast cut components including pipes shaped as hockey sticks with heat resistant tape, and PHPA branding including gold stripes and 50th Anniversary logo with embroidered seat and bags.  The end result has left motorcycle enthusiast in awe at various bike shows and events where the PHPA Harley has been on display.  The estimated retail value of the PHPA Harley is now over $70,000.

“We went a little over the top with the features on this bike, but that was the whole point,” said Camp.  “Make this bike stand out among the rest to build awareness for not only the PHPA but the charities the bike will support.”

The PHPA Harley was officially unveiled at the PHPA’s 50th Annual Meeting of Player Representatives in Orlando, Florida this past June in front of over 200 professional hockey players and key stakeholders throughout the sport, where it was announced that the bike would be raffled at the conclusion of the PHPA’s 50th Anniversary season with all proceeds split between 5 charitable causes including Hockey Fights Cancer, the Hockey Canada Foundation, the USA Hockey Foundation, Heartland Forest, and the Staal Family Foundation.

The bike has been on display at key events on both the motorcycle and hockey calendars throughout the year including the Rogers Hometown Hockey event in Niagara Falls October 7th & 8th, as well as the Port Dover Friday the 13th event in October, and will continue to be displayed at events such as the Toronto Motorcycle show in February..

Tickets for the PHPA Harley-Davidson motorcycle are available for $100 each and can be purchased from the PHPA by calling 289-296-5561 or visiting the PHPA's online store.  Only 1,750 tickets are available for sale and are selling fast.

The draw will take place on August 20, 2018, at the PHPA’s golf tournament event in St. Catharines, Ontario, which will officially close out the PHPA’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.

“We built a motorcycle that players can be proud of as we celebrate 50 years of being the only Players’ Association representing minor league players within a major league sport,” said PHPA Executive Director, Larry Landon.  “Tickets are going fast, and I would encourage anyone, whether you are a bike enthusiast or not, to buy a ticket for this unbelievable Harley-Davidson to help support some amazing causes.”
