The PHPA Certified Agent Program provides a clear pathway to certification for both established Player representatives and those beginning their careers in professional hockey representation.

Applicants may apply under one of three certification pathways based on their current experience, certification status and Player representation.

CERTIFICATION PROCESS

Becoming a PHPA Certified Agent involves the following steps:

Select Your Certification Pathway

Determine whether Category A, B or C applies based on your current experience, certification status and Player representation. Category A: Professional Hockey Agents, Category B: NHLPA Certified Agents, Category C: Emerging Hockey Agents

Complete Your Application

Submit the applicable PHPA Certified Agent application, authorization form, acknowledgement of the PHPA Regulations Governing Agent Certification and required supporting documentation.

Application Review

The PHPA will review the completed application and supporting documentation to confirm that the applicable eligibility requirements have been satisfied.

Complete Certification Requirements

Complete any remaining requirements applicable to your certification pathway, including the PHPA Competency Examination for Category C (Examination will be emailed following application submission).

Complete Onboarding

Complete the remaining onboarding requirements, including filing applicable PHPA Standard Player-Agent Contracts (SPACs) and paying the annual certification fee.

Receive PHPA Certified Agent Status

Once all applicable requirements have been completed, successful applicants will receive PHPA Certified Agent status and access to the PHPA Agent Centre and Certified Agent Program benefits.

CERTIFICATION PATHWAYS

The Professional Hockey Players’ Guild is a comprehensive resource initiative designed to support players through every stage of their career and prepare them for life after hockey. The Guild is built around these four core pillars.

CATEGORY A

PROFESSIONAL HOCKEY AGENTS

This pathway is intended for Agents who currently represent one or more Players under contract in the American Hockey League (AHL) or ECHL.

Applicants must demonstrate active representation within professional hockey and satisfy the eligibility requirements established under the PHPA Regulations Governing Agent Certification.

CATEGORY B

NHLPA CERTIFIED AGENTS

This pathway is intended for Agents who are currently certified by the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA).

The PHPA recognizes the experience and professional standing of NHLPA Certified Agents while introducing applicants to the PHPA's certification requirements and professional standards.

CATEGORY C

EMERGING HOCKEY AGENTS

This pathway is intended for new industry entrants and Agents representing Elite Amateur Players who are preparing to enter professional hockey representation.

Category C provides an opportunity for emerging Agents to establish themselves within the profession while working toward representing Players competing in the AHL and ECHL.

PHPA Regulations Governing Agent Certification

The PHPA Certified Agent Program is governed by the PHPA Regulations Governing Agent Certification, which establish the eligibility requirements, Code of Conduct, professional responsibilities, annual certification requirements, disciplinary procedures and other standards applicable to PHPA Certified Agents.
