Professional Hockey Players Association (PHPA) Executive Director Larry Landon and Dr. Joe Pelino are pleased to announce the launch of the PELINO ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE CENTRE “The Next Generation of Strength and Fitness” and the GORDIE HOWE ADVANCED IMAGING RESEARCH INSTITUTE.
 

Opening in the fall of 2019 through early 2020, the Pelino Athletic Performance Centre will occupy over 20,000 square feet of operational space, containing cutting-edge treatment and training technology for sport medicine clinicians and coaches including designated sports chiropractors, naturopaths, physicians, physio, athletic and massage therapists.

The Pelino Athletic Performance Centre will be home to the Gordie Howe Advanced Imaging Research Institute, focused on providing unparalleled, in-house diagnostic imaging of all variety of injury experienced in the course of professional sports performance. Further, the Pelino Centre will also be home to a certified Microgate Testing Facility, providing world leading solutions in cognitive performance testing at game speed, allowing the Pelino Athletic Performance Centre to offer a total mind-body approach to performance testing, evaluation, treatment and training.

Partnering with key suppliers, including Canon Medical Systems Canada and Microgate USA, the Gordie Howe Advanced Imaging Research Institute is a centre for world class excellence in research, teaching, public awareness and advances in musculoskeletal disorders, including mild traumatic brain injury (concussion), cognitive performance testing and evaluation, along with other sport-related injury, which can provide benefit for broader public health and wellness.

The Howe Family has provided their Father’s name to the Pelino Athletic Performance Centre owing to its mandate for research, the advanced quality of imaging technologies and to the high level of improvement outcomes expected for neurological and orthopedic injuries affecting all high performance sports.

Under one roof in the hub of the Niagara Region, with 30 to 60 minute access to four international airports, professional and high performance amateur athletes will receive access to advanced diagnostic imaging technology and world leading cognitive performance testing. The Centre offers full evaluations to better understand complete body, brain, joint and muscular profiles, along with other assessments which can be directly integrated with the treatment and training methods or techniques to more effectively show evidence for what works best for specific conditions.

When combined with Microgate’s cognitive performance testing “at game speed”, the Pelino Athletic Performance Centre is a globally unique, one-of-a-kind facility providing “diagnostic accuracy through onsite imaging and cognitive testing”, along with world class training and performance solutions for professional and high performance athletes.

The Centre will be located at 3340 Schmon Parkway in Thorold Ontario just beside Brock University’s St Catharines Main Campus.
