The Professional Hockey Players’ Association and BioSteel are pleased to announce the January 2016 BioSteel Player of the Month Award recipients from the American Hockey League (AHL) and ECHL.

Michael Leighton of the Rockford IceHogs receives the AHL BioSteel Award for his high performance and consistency demonstrated throughout the month.  In ten games played, Leighton posted an 8-0-2 record to go along with a league leading 1.22 goals against average and .954 save percentage.  His third shutout of the month was the 45^th of his AHL career, tying the all-time AHL shutout mark set by Johnny Bower.  Leighton was named to the AHL All-Star Classic where he posted a shutout in the Championship game, leading the Central Division to victory in the 2016 AHL All-Star Challenge.

In the ECHL, Chad Costello of the Allen Americans receives the BioSteel Award for demonstrating high performance and consistent play.  He led all ECHL players with 21 points (6 goals and 15 assists) in the month of January, recording points in 12 of 14 games including 5 multi point games.  He currently leads the league in scoring, 15 points ahead of the next leading scorer.
