GLENDALE, AZ (May 20, 2014) – The Central Hockey League’s post-season came to an end 10 days ago and one of the bigger accomplishments of the season for the league’s member teams is the number of players and call-ups during the 2013-14 season.  In all, 43 different transactions occurred during the season with 26 different players being called-up or loaned to American Hockey League (AHL) clubs.

For the second straight season, the Denver Cutthroats (CHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche) had the most players make the journey to the AHL as 10 players were called-up (a total of 16 different transactions) giving 2014 CHL Coach of the Year Derek Armstrong 19 different players called-up or loaned to the AHL over the Cutthroats two seasons.  This season, goaltenders Kent Patterson and Kieran Millan along with forwards Robin Soudek, Cam Reid, Vincent Arseneau, A.J. Gale and Michael Schumacher and defensemen Mikael Tam, Daniel Maggio and Lee Moffie all made their way to the AHL from the Cutthroats.

A great story during the 2013-14 season was Terry Ruskowski’s Quad City Mallards who signed an affiliation with the Iowa Wild last summer and then saw several other rostered players loaned to the AHL (seven different players went from QDC to the AHL).  Both Mallards goaltenders Thomas Heemskerk and Ty Rimmer spent significant time in the AHL with Heemskerk summoned by Iowa, Abbotsford and Worcester and Rimmer seeing two separate call-ups to Oklahoma City.  A third goaltender in Eric Levine was also called-up to the AHL from the Mallards (Syracuse).  Other Mallards players spending time in the AHL were Nicholas Rioux, Jim McKenzie, Gergo Nagy and Corbin Baldwin.   

In total, seven of the 10 CHL clubs had at least one player earn a call-up to the AHL.
