The PHPA is extremely sadded to mourn the loss of Field Consultant Jim Wiley who passed away peacefully December 26th, surrounded by family.

Jim had worked for the PHPA for the past six years, after spending several years leading the Hockey Operations Department for the Central Hockey League.

He will be missed by the many players he helped serve, played with, and coached throughout his career in professional hockey.

A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada, Wiley attained his undergraduate degree from Lake Superior State University as well as a Masters Degree in Athletic Administration from the University of Tulsa.

He had been involved in professional hockey for four decades serving in various coaching, scouting, and administrative capacities.  He played professionally for seven seasons split between the National Hockey League (Pittsburgh, Vancouver), American Hockey League (Hershey), and the Central Hockey League (Seattle, Tulsa), and has coached at various levels including the NHL, AHL, ECHL, CHL, former International Hockey League (IHL), and the United States Hockey League (USHL).  

Wiley served as Director of Hockey Operations for the Central Hockey League (CHL) from September 2008 to October 2014, where he lead the day-to-day hockey operations relating to all CHL teams from the league level.  He presided over all supplementary discipline actions while assisting the Commissioner and Supervisor of Officials, and served as a member of the league’s Collective Bargaining Negotiating Committee.

Jim was a special guest on the PHPA Podcast where he shared several stories from his legendary professional hockey career.
