(Niagara Falls, ON) The Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA) is pleased to announce the hiring of Jim Wiley as a Field Consultant and Advisor to the PHPA Hockey Operations department.
Wiley had served as Director of Hockey Operations for the Central Hockey League (CHL) from September 2008 to October 2014, where he lead the day-to-day hockey operations relating to all CHL teams from the league level. He presided over all supplementary discipline actions while assisting the Commissioner and Supervisor of Officials, and served as a member of the league’s Collective Bargaining Negotiating Committee.
Wiley has been involved in professional hockey for nearly four decades serving in various coaching, scouting, and administrative capacities. He played professionally for seven seasons split between the National Hockey League (Pittsburgh, Vancouver), American Hockey League (Hershey), and the Central Hockey League (Seattle, Tulsa), and has coached at various levels including the NHL, AHL, ECHL, CHL, former International Hockey League (IHL), and the United States Hockey League (USHL).
In his new role with the PHPA, Wiley will serve as a Field Consultant, regularly meeting with AHL and ECHL players and Player Representatives throughout the season, while serving in an advisory role to the PHPA Hockey Operations department and Executive Director.
“Jim brings a wealth of experience to the PHPA Hockey Operations department with his geographical location allowing the Association’s Membership in the midwest and west to have regular, in-person representation,” said PHPA Executive Director, Larry Landon. “We are thrilled he will be meeting and educating players and helping to resolve various issues as they arise.”
Wiley, a native of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada attained his undergraduate degree from Lake Superior State University and Masters Degree in Athletic Administration from the University of Tulsa.
