The Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA) is pleased to announce the PHPA Annual Meeting of Player Representatives will be hosted at the Flamingo Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada from June 16 – 20th, 2014.
This annual week-long series of meetings affords Player Representatives, Executive Committee members, PHPA staff, and Advisors an opportunity to review the past year, plan for the upcoming season, as well as provide input and direction with respect to the Association’s “Looking Forward” strategic plan.
During the meetings, one Player Representative from each American Hockey League (AHL), ECHL, and Central Hockey League (CHL) team participate in open discussion on a variety of Collective Bargaining and other League and PHPA issues. Player Reps gain valuable information on the Business Operations of the PHPA, hear from expert attorneys on Hockey Operations and workers’ compensation, and perhaps most unique, are encouraged to bring forth any issues during a closed-door meeting with their respective League President / Commissioner.
The PHPA Annual Meeting shifts to Las Vegas after being held in Orlando, Florida since the early 1990’s. “Orlando was an amazing place to hold the Annual Meeting, but Las Vegas will deliver a fresh look and feel,” said Adam Huxley, Player Representative for the Las Vegas Wranglers and member of the PHPA Executive Committee. “Weather-wise, it’s the nicest time of year in Las Vegas. Players can expect to be informed and educated about the PHPA while enjoying the many attractions that Vegas has to offer. It’s a great hockey market with passionate fans and I am confident the venue will be fully embraced by the players.”
In 2013, more than 50 players, along with an array of PHPA staff, advisors, attorneys, representatives from other Player Associations including the NHLPA, NFLPA, PLPA, and corporate partners including Scotiabank, the Official Financial Institution of the PHPA, Reebok-CCM Hockey, and Stone Carlie, attended the PHPA Annual Meeting of Player Representatives.
The annual Golf Outing will again be presented by BFL CANADA Risk & Insurance Services, Inc. while Sutton Special Risk, AON, IOA, and Programmed Insurance Brokers (PIB), Winston & Strawn, LLP continue their support as presenting sponsors, allowing the PHPA to host a professional and informative meeting.
During the PHPA Annual Meetings, Executive Director Brian Ramsay surprised Bert Villarini by naming him the latest recipient of the Curt Leichner Distinguished Member Award.
