The PHPA extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Jim Morrison. Morrison passed away earlier this week at the age of 94.
Jim helped establish the American Hockey League Players’ Association and served as the first President of its Executive Committee. In 1968, the AHLPA merged with the WHLPA to form the PHPA, laying the groundwork for the organization that continues to represent players today.
As a player, the Montreal native enjoyed a 20-year pro career, appearing in 721 American Hockey League games over 12 seasons in addition to NHL stints with Toronto, Boston, Detroit, New York and Pittsburgh. He earned three straight NHL All-Star selections from 1955 to 1957 and was honoured with the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL’s top defenceman in 1965-66.

Two players have been suspended for 20 games for violating the terms of the AHL/PHPA Performance Enhancing Substance Program.
