To culminate its 50th Anniversary, the Professional Hockey Players’ Association (PHPA) is pleased to announce the return of its Golf Classic on August 21st, 2018 at the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club. The tournament, Presented by Meridian, will feature current and former National Hockey League (NHL) and American Hockey League (AHL) players who will play in each foursome, a silent and live auction of autographed hockey memorabilia and one-of-a-kind hockey experiences, and several NHL trophies provided by the Hockey Hall of Fame on display.
All net proceeds will be shared between five charities including the Hockey Canada Foundation, the USA Hockey Foundation, the Staal Family Foundation, Hockey Fights Cancer, and prominent Niagara based organization, Heartland Forest.
“For ten years (1994 to 2003), the PHPA hosted one of the premiere golf tournaments in the Niagara Region to help raise funds for local charities,” said PHPA Executive Director, Larry Landon. “It’s only fitting that the PHPA Golf Classic returns as a signature event to officially close out our 50th Anniversary.”
The event will be capped off with the draw for the custom built PHPA Harley-Davidson motorcycle which is valued at over $100,000. Tickets to win the PHPA Harley are still available for $100 (CAD), but are limited with only 1,750 available. Proceeds from the sale of Harley tickets will also be directed towards the same five charities being supported by the Golf Classic.
Registration for the Golf Classic is now open. The tournament entry fee is $1,100 per foursome or $275 per individual which includes lunch and dinner, 18 holes of golf, PHPA apparel, a photo with the NHL trophies, and the opportunity to meet and interact with countless current and former professional hockey players including Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres Alumni, as well as Hockey Hall of Famers from various decades. The PHPA will be releasing a complete list of celebrities in the coming weeks.
The PHPA launched its 50th Anniversary celebrations at the 2017 PHPA Annual Meeting of Player Representatives in June where former players were honoured including Calgary Flames General Manager, Brad Treliving as the 2017 recipient of the PHPA Curt Leichner Distinguished Member Award. The PHPA also unveiled a 50th Anniversary video featuring comments from some of the biggest names in hockey including Gary Bettman, Don Fehr, Brian Burke, Lou Lamoriello, Dave Andrews, and others. Throughout the year, the PHPA was featured by way of a 6-page section in The Hockey News, and has been highlighting significant moments in PHPA history and exclusive video content through its social media platforms.
